CEP recently had the absolute privilege of being part of a very special experience with the Tappoc Cluster, one that reminded us of the power of sharing story, history and culture.
Principal of Branxholme Wallacedale Community School, Nat Bennett, shared with Tappoc students and staff the story and history of her family’s possum skin cloak — sharing not just the cloak itself, but the deep family, cultural and historical connections held within it.
Nat then shared Possum Skin Coat, by Aunty Fay Muir and Sue Lawson, helping students to further understand the significance and importance of possum skin cloaks. With appropriate Elder permission, students were also given the incredibly special opportunity to wear the cloak.
For CEP, the experience became even more meaningful when we were honoured with the presentation of our own possum skin, beautifully burnt with the story and connections of the Tappoc Cluster and CEP’s journey alongside them.
To receive something carrying such deep meaning, connection and shared history was an incredibly beautiful and humbling moment for our team.
This is the power of clusters — coming together, sharing stories, building understanding and creating connections that reach well beyond the classroom.
We are incredibly grateful to Nat, the Tappoc schools, Elders and community for allowing CEP to be part of such a special moment.
