CEP is proud to introduce you to one of our incredible Teach Rural placements, Rebekah.
Hi, my name is Bek, and I am a 3rd year University student, currently undertaking the Teach Rural program. There are countless reasons why I wanted to be a part of the Teach Rural program since it can be a fulfilling and enriching experience.
First and foremost, teaching in rural areas often means working with students who have unique needs and backgrounds, which can challenge you as an educator and help you grow both personally and professionally. Additionally, many rural schools are under-resourced and short-staffed, meaning that my contributions could make a significant impact on the lives of these students. Beyond the classroom, living in a rural community can offer opportunities for cultural immersion, outdoor recreation, and meaningful connections with locals. Ultimately, being a part of the Teach Rural program allows me to make a difference in the world while gaining invaluable experiences along the way.
The Teach Rural program has been so supportive in my transition from city life to country, even if it is for a short while. The program allows me to have this experience with like-minded PST’s as well as really develop a sense of belonging and community. So far in my rural journey, I have encountered numerous teaching opportunities, a supportive staff and student environment as well as invaluable resources and skills to take with me throughout my teaching career.
I know it’s only been a week, but I am almost certain that teaching rural might be on the cards for my future!
