Teach Rural Program 2023 – Introducing David

CEP is proud to announce that we have our first Teach Rural placements occurring in Term 2.

We would like to introduce you to David who is one of our Teach Rural placements:

My name is David, and I am a pre-service (MTeach secondary) teacher at Melbourne University. I am originally from Wales and a dual citizen. I have always wanted to be a teacher and knew I’d take the plunge eventually. But I was determined to do some time living and working abroad, which I did. And that’s why I started my teaching degree at the ripe old age of 29.

I have a Bachelor’s in Sociology with Education, and two MAs in International Relations from the University of South Wales in the UK and the University of Melbourne respectively. I applied for the Teach Rural program because I grew up and was educated in a rural environment where everyone knows your name and there’s a sense of community that can’t be replicated in the city. I had some wonderfully inspirational teachers growing up that gave me the skills to be what I wanted, and showed me that “effort in means rewards out”.

When I moved to Melbourne in 2019, I decided that here is where I wanted to emulate those inspirational people that came before me and help inspire the next few generations of rural students to be and do whatever they want in life. I’m extremely excited for the opportunity and can’t wait to get stuck in at Wangaratta High School and start to give back.

David is looking forward to getting started at Wangaratta High School!
