On March 25th we officially welcomed this year’s Rural Youth Ambassadors (RYA) for Forum One. This year the group includes 20 schools from all across Victoria.
It was a mixture of nerves and excitement as RYA met at Southern Cross station to commence their journey. Day one was a combination of meet and greet, identifying unique leadership styles, what it means to be a Rural Youth Ambassador, exploring the accommodation facilities and finishing the day with a group dinner.

Day two was action-packed! The group started with a tour of RMIT (Thanks Ange and the team for making this so interesting). Following this the Ambassadors were introduced to the team from YACVIC, who covered topics including Youth Voice and Agency, how to make change happen and Elevator Pitches. The group then heard from Emily and Leah who shared a brief introduction to the ResourceSmart Schools program, before facilitating an activity called ‘My Community My Future 2040’. After a brief bit of spare time it was off to Strike Bowling where many future champions were on show. Pizzas for dinner capped off a very busy day.

The morning of Day 3 was spent with Senior people from the Department of Education as well as hearing from Willian Naughton-Gravette from the Victorian SRC. Ambassadors then made their journeys home for a well earned rest and to enjoy the Easter break.

We are thrilled with this year’s group, who come from all over rural Victoria and who will be wonderful advocates for rural education and communities. We look forward to welcoming them back for Forum 2 in June to continue our work together.
