If you’d like to follow the lead of rural school, Apollo Bay College, by winning the coveted “Off to a Great Start” grant from Yamaha, your time to apply is running out!
In just its second year, the Great Start Grant is valued at $50,000, including $45,000 worth of musical instruments — aiming to foster musical creativity in schools.
Yamaha Education Outreach Clinician Dr Rob Williams says the social and educational value of music instruction in schools is universally recognised but, all too often, music has become a ‘luxury subject’ due to financial constraints.
“One of the challenges a lot of schools have is being able to budget and afford a lot of instruments,” he says.
“What this giveaway has done is (to create) an instant band for a school.”
The grant also features an exclusive performance from Australian X-Factor winner and Eurovision runner-up, Dami Im.
Applications close on March 16 and can be lodged online at https://greatstart.yamahabackstage.com.au/giveaway
And if you’re still wondering if its worth the effort, check these clips from last year’s inaugural winner, Apollo Bay P-12.
Happy tuning!
