November is the month when everything ‘gets real’ for all the schools competing in the Energy Breakthrough event, of which CEP is a program partner.
With 232 teams of students from 93 schools arriving in the central Victorian town of Maryborough between November 22 and 26, it is sure to be one of this year’s largest celebrations of STEM and hands-on learning.
Recently our CEP CEO, Mark McLay, visited teacher Craig Friebe at Korumburra Primary School to check out their two Human Powered Vehicles (HPV). The EB program at the school has been regaining momentum post-COVID with 24 students directly engaged and over 30 parents from the school community attending recent training sessions. Craig’s two teams will complete three assessments at the event: Display & Presentation (a formal presentation to a panel of judges worth 25%); Design & Construction (an informal discussion with judges about what they have built and why worth 25%); and the Trial (a 14 hour racing competition around a 1.58km street circuit worth 50%).
Good luck to all of the CEP schools competing. If you, or one of your staff would like to visit Maryborough, CEP are hosting a guided Event Site Tour during the morning of Friday 24 November 2023. Head to the EB website here for more info.
