Rural School Success, What Can we Learn: Barley and Beesley (2007) – an article report on an exploratory study of the factors perceived by school personnel to contribute to success in high- performing, high-needs rural schools?re

Transforming the South: SCORE (2014) – a document about what rural communities need, to ensure their students and communities can meet the demands of a changing world. It highlights not only what must happen inside the classroom and the school house, but also what needs to happen in the community.

SiMERR National Survey: SiMERR (2005) – a summary of the national survey focusing on the provision of Science and Maths in rural and remote communities.

Independent Review into Regional, Rural and Remote Eduction Government Response (2017)– this paper is a review into regional, rural and remote education, intended to examine the challenges and barriers to positive leanring outcomes.

Commission on the Delivery of Rural Education – Scotland (2013)– this comission included examination the delivery of education, funding issues and links between schools and rural communities. As well as making recommendation on delivery of education.

Directions in Rural Education – The 1990s (1991)– this is the summary of the state conference of the Victorian Country Education Department in 1991.

Expert Advisory Panel Rural and Regional Education report (2019)– a report that includes recommendations for the Minister of Education on improving educational outcomes for studentsin Rural and Regional Victoria.

Independent Review into Regional, Rural and Remote Education (2018)– a report that considers the key issues, challenges and barriers that impact on the learning outcomes of regional, rural and remote students. This report also identies innovative approaches to support improved access and achievement of these students in school and in their transition to further study, training and employment.

Inquiry into Disadvantage in Rural and Regional Victoria (2010)– this report examines the disadvantages rural or regional students face and identifies any factors that may contribute to their disadvantage.

Making Rural Education Work (2014)– this paper proposes a course of action to improve education for rural students. This involves; mapping territory, making connections and mobilizing for rapid and sustainable scale.

Mitchell Institute – Educational Disadvantage in Regional and Rural School (2014)– this paper analyses various statistics to identify challenges that rural students may enounter, which can disadvantage their education.

National Inquiry into Rural and Remote Education (2000)– a Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commision that identifies challenges that rural and remote students face.

National Regional Rural and Remote Tertiary Education Strategy (2019)– this paper focuses on and intends to address regional, rural and remote students, and their disadvantage regarding tertitary education.

Out of the Loop – Center for Pubki Education (2018)– this paper explores how American rural schools are often excluded from research and policy discussions which excerbates poverty, inequity and isolation.

The Economic Impact of Improving Regional, Rural and Remote Education in Australia (2018)- this report documents the differences in educational outcomes between remote, rural, regional and urban Australians.

The tyrannies of distance and disadvantage (2013)- factors relating to children’s development in regional and disadvantaged areas of Australia.

The hobbit effect- small schools (2006)- report that explores small schools and their value, especially at a time when there is pressure to shut small schools to save money.

Why small towns prosper (2003)- a report that explores rural towns attitudes and the reason that some rural towns thrive while others languish.

Working together toolkit (2013)- a tool used to increase the ability of school authorities to communicate with eachother. And provide tools to develop effective governance documents to implement shared governance and collaborative practices.

Rural School Councils: CEP (2016) – A project undertaken by Country Education Partnership to explore the issues facing rural School Councils and consider future possible approaches.

Victoria as a Learning Community (2011)- an overview of Victorian education systems, and the key directions that should be focused on to improve education.

Rural Recruitment & Retention

Frontiers Article – This paper provides an update on compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress in teachers: How they contribute to burnout and how they are related to trauma-awareness.

Australian Journal of Teacher Education– This paper provides an update on previous reports of the extent of Initial Teacher Education courses that prepare teachers for rural schools in Australia.

Rural New Graduates: CEP (2010) – a project that documents the experiences, challenges and opportunities that rural new graduates face.

Rural Cluster and University Partnerships: CEP (2011) – the documentation of the experiences and learning of the Rural Educators Network initiative facilitating partnerships between rural clusters and universities.

Staffing an Empty School House: Chris Roberts (2010) – a paper that explores the key factors in recruiting educators to rural and remote communities.

Staffing Rural, Remote & Isolated Schools in Australia (2017) – a paper that reviews the research literature from 2004-2016 regarding rural, remote and isolated staffing trends, benefits, challenges, support systems and leadership.

Evaluation of the Rural and Remote Training Schools Project (2017)– a report that assesses the Project, informs future policy and funding decision and helps the department improve practices regarding Training Schools Project.

Rural Teacher Recruitment and Retention Practices; Literature, National Survey of Rural Superintendents, and Case Studies of Programs in Virginia. (2005)– this literature review explores the varied teacher shortages across georgraphy, demography and subject area. As well as the four challenges related to recruiting and retaining teachers in rural areas.

Rural Educators Network (2009)-this paper provides an overview of the programs  provided to aid rural school teacher’s delevelopment and the support provided for new graduates in rural communities. It also explores the issues that have arisen as a result of this involvement.

Deferring a University Offer in Regional Victoria (2014)– this report synthesises the findings of the deferral reports from the last five years.

Evaluation of the Rural and Remote Training Schools Project (2013)– an evaluation designed to assess the extent  of the Rural and Remote Training Schools Project has met its objectives. It also informs future policy and funding decision and helps the department improve practices.

PASS Position Paper on Principal Qualifications in Specialist Schools – Principals’ Association of Specialist Schools (PASS) recognises the complexities that exist in the management of specialist schools and therefore believes that Victoria Government Principals in Department of Education (DE) specialist schools hold appropriate qualifications and have expertise in these school environments.

Improving Post School Pathways in Rural Communities: CEP (2006) – the documentation of a project which explored the post compulsory challenges faced by rural education communities.

Rural and Remote New Graduate Recruitment and Support (2013)-this project provides data on attration and retention practices in rural and remote schools, especially regarding recent graduates from teacher education courses.

Rural Cluster University Partnership Assessment (2011)-assesses the feasiability of extending the Rural Cluster University Partnership approach throughout country DEECD regions for a cross sectorial approach.
