|Supporting learning continuity|
New environments push us to think in different ways, so when I stepped out of my role at the Victorian School Building Authority in March this year to take up the role of interim CEO at Bastow, I was expecting to find myself on a steep learning curve.
As it turns out we have all found ourselves in a very new environment – and we are all on a steep learning curve!
The past weeks have been full of challenges. With these challenges, I believe, have come countless opportunities to grow and adapt as we find new ways of working, learning and connecting.
At Bastow, we are transitioning as much of our professional learning to online as possible. We are also continuing to develop and deliver new programs to support teachers and leaders through this challenging time.
The Continuity of Learning Hub, hosted on the Bastow website, is now the Department’s one-stop-shop for professional learning and resources to support our educators through this transition.
On the Hub you’ll find a range of opportunities related to health and wellbeing, teaching and learning, leading remotely, collaborative professional learning and coaching and mentoring. We will be adding new content regularly.
Last week, more than 5,000 school and corporate staff from across Victoria participated in interactive webinars exploring practical approaches to wellbeing and different ways of working. Recordings of Boosting Psychological Wellbeing, Remote Control and Leading Remotely are available here.
This week, we’re launching For Teachers by Teachers: Reading F-2, a series of videos and webinars focused on teaching reading remotely – from classrooms, loungerooms and home offices. They have been developed by expert classroom teachers from across Victoria – a brilliant example of best practice and collaboration in action.
The Bastow team hopes that you are healthy and well, and we look forward to seeing you soon – as we work to bring you more virtual professional learning.

The Principal Mentoring program is part of the Department’s Principal Health and Wellbeing Strategy. The program links principals with trained mentors who are highly skilled retired principals and educational professionals. Mentors partner with their mentees to share their expertise and provide support, acting as sounding boards and trusted advisors.
