Ping: online music education in 2010
Mar 10 2010 in Bush voices, News by Ajax
After a successful pilot in 2009, the Ping online music education project is back in 2010. Ping is music education for the 21st century. It combines social media, blogging and creative musical activities to engage Victorian rural middle years students. This year the following opportunities will be available:
- Creative singing and composition based projects
- Online interactive opportunities with Orchestra Victoria and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra musicians
Ping takes an innovative approach to online education. The emphasis will be on student centred, self-directed learning, with activities and tutorials presented in video, podcast and written formats. A range of musical styles will be explored, from hip-hop to classical music and focus on creative music making activities such as singing and composition.
Schools can also access a Song Room teaching artist for two terms of the program to support students and teachers.
Ping is a collaboration between The Song Room, The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, The Country Education Project, 3MBS FM and Victorian Opera. Ping is funded by the Victorian Government through the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development.
The project website is pingmusic.com.au

Id love to be involved in this incredible opportunity. We are also hoping to be involved in procuring a very large percusion arrangement for term 4. Being a part of the Ping opportunity would add another layer to the myriad of learning opportunities and experiences available to our children. The future is looking very bright for our rural community; not to mention melodious if it all comes together!
I would strongly encourage everyone to apply to be part of this amazing project. It is cutting edge technology, connects remote country students with experts and provides an opportunity to glimpse true 21st century education.
